Bondage and spirituality

References to the spiritual use of rope and bondage are probably as old as mankind. There are many indicators, that the use of rope - in combination with love - has been very important.

Veda, an old form of contemporary Hinduism, even had a "rope god", named Varuna.

And almost every magical tradition has rope spells and rope related rituals, often associated with love. In Europe there is the pre-medieval saga of Queen Brunhilde, who wanted to be tied by her newlywed husband on their wedding night.

Pressure and tightness

People who are into Japanese bondage know about the influence, rope tension and knots can have on the body's Ki energy system and its meridians. Japanese bondage masters (called "Nawashi") use their ropes to stimulate erotic pressure points and create super awareness.

Being bound, helpless and "at the mercy of your partner" can be a very spiritual experience. And most of us are aware of the spiritual connection between suffering and love.

Japanese still often use a rope circle around a fresh grave to protect both the grave itself and its visitors.

Wrapping someone's body in a rope harnass will work as an energetic "Box of Faraday"; meaning it will temporarily lock all energy inside the body and prevent energy-level communication with the surrounding environment (much like the fact that you cannot use your mobile phone in a lift, because the lift cage will shield the signal)

Knots, correctly placed on the body, can stimulate or even open "Chakras" - the "wheels of energy" that many know from Yoga-related techniques or Shiatsu massage.

Ropes and love magic

From the Voodoo magical tradition comes a rope spell that supposedly helps to awaken your (potential) partner's love for you:

Use about a yard of red rope. The higher the rope quality, the better. At one third of the rope length carefully, conciously and tightly tie a knot while reciting the name of the loved one and the reasons why you would like him or her to love you. Next repeat this process two more times, once in the middle and once on two thrids of the rope.

The function of this ritual is to focus your love energy into the knots. Pushing an alond into the knot will make the spell stronger.

Finally, lay the rope under the bed or near the home of your (prospective) partner.
